# AI policy

How AI was and was not used to make kevinyoung.net, and how to tell what is what.

I use AI tools, and I would rather tell you how than leave you guessing. This page says where AI helped make this site, where it did not, and who is responsible for what is published.

## The short version

-   This site was built with help from [Claude](https://www.anthropic.com/claude), an AI assistant made by Anthropic. Claude helped write the code and wrote first drafts of some text.
-   I review and approve what is published, and I am responsible for it.
-   The stories about my life are my own. AI did not invent them.
-   No AI system talks to you on this site, and nothing you do here is sent to an AI tool.

## How the site was built

The design, code and features of this site were built in conversation with Claude, including Claude Code, Anthropic's coding assistant. That covers the layout, the light and dark themes, the Display settings, search, the text-only pages, the accessibility checks and much of the behind-the-scenes work. I decided what to build, looked at the results and asked for changes until they were right.

## The words on the site

-   The About page, my short bios and the descriptions of my work were drafted with Claude's help from facts and stories I supplied. I edited and approved them, and I asked for changes until they sounded like me and were accurate.
-   My posts are my own writing. I sometimes ask AI to check grammar and punctuation, and I decide which suggestions to accept.
-   Posts from my other businesses' newsletters are also mine, and are marked with where they first appeared.

## Translations

The Spanish and Portuguese text was drafted with machine translation from the English. Friends who speak those languages natively are reviewing it, so until they finish it may contain awkward or wrong wording. The English version is the one to trust if they differ.

## Images

The portrait on the home and About pages was generated with AI from a real photo of me. It keeps my likeness and changes the clothing and background. The other photos of me and my work are real photographs. Credits for photos from other people are shown next to them.

## What AI does not do here

-   There is no chatbot or AI assistant for visitors.
-   Nothing you type, search or click is given to an AI tool. Search runs in your browser, and the [Privacy policy](https://kevinyoung.net/privacy.md) explains the little that is collected.
-   AI is not used to make up quotes, reviews, credentials, sources or experiences.

## AI tools reading this site

The site offers Markdown copies of its pages, `llms.txt` and `llms-full.txt` so AI tools can read it accurately. The [Terms and conditions](https://kevinyoung.net/terms.md) ask for a reasonable request rate and a credit to the source.

## If something is wrong

AI can make mistakes, and so can I. If you spot an error, an odd translation or something that reads like it was written by a machine and should not have been, please tell me through the [Contact](https://kevinyoung.net/contact.md) page. I am responsible for fixing it.
